Reefing Community Comes Together at Mansfield Aquatics Open Day

The reefing community will be coming together this April as Mansfield Aquatics Ltd. hosts a special 18th birthday open day and reef meet on April 11th and 12th.

The event is being organised with the support of the Reefy AF Reefers, who will be meeting at the store across the weekend to spend time with fellow hobbyists, share knowledge and show their support for the store.

For owner David, the event represents everything that makes the reefing hobby special.

Reef meets are the backbone of the hobby and help all new and existing reef keepers no matter their level of experience, he says.

“Networking and making the hobby enjoyable is the whole point of these meets, and it’s something I really want to get behind.”

Mansfield Aquatics first opened in 2008, originally focusing on marine fish and aquarium maintenance before expanding into corals and reef equipment over the years.

During the Covid pandemic the business continued trading and later shifted its coral systems more heavily towards SPS corals, after previously being well known for its LPS colonies and coral frags.

However, 2025 proved to be one of the most difficult years in the store’s history after the coral tables were spiked twice, causing major losses of both mother colonies and coral frags that had taken years to grow.

Despite the setback, the support of the reefing community has helped the store rebuild.

Encouragement has come from many areas of the hobby including the Reefy AF channel, Ron from Eden Corals, Steve from Xodis, Andy the EastMidsreefer and the store’s loyal customers.

With the coral systems now recovering, Mansfield Aquatics is once again growing popular reef favourites such as Euphyllia and Goniopora, alongside its continued focus on rebuilding its SPS stock.

The open day is intended not only as a birthday celebration for the store but also as a chance for reef keepers to meet, talk reef tanks, and enjoy the hobby together.

After a challenging year, the event marks a fresh start for Mansfield Aquatics, with reef keepers from across the community coming together to support the store and celebrate the hobby they all share.

Anyone with an interest in marine aquariums — whether experienced reef keepers or those just starting out — is welcome to come along, meet the community and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the event.
