With only one slightly blurred image available so far, I jumped at the chance of taking a few detailed images of this fascinating fish today as it goes on offer to hobbyists at UltraMarine stockist, Finest Aquatics.
Already labelled as a “one of a kind” fish by ReefBuilders, there’s no denying that this specimen has a subtle beauty to go with it’s rarity value. For those that don’t know, it is thought that this specimen is a cross of Acanthurus guttatus (Mustard tang) and A. triostegus (Convict tang). Collected from the South coast of Java, it is the first ever seen by importer TMC.
As well as highlighting the stunning details of the fish’s unusual patterning, I hope these new images convey the superb condition of the fish.
Sharing a tank with another ultra-rarity, the Flingi Angel, this unique specimen is on sale for just under £900 which crazy low considering the price of some other pseudo-rare fish I could mention.
