2022 will see The Deep celebrate its 20th anniversary. Opening its doors for the first time on 23rd March 2002 and exceeding all expectations with over 850,000 visitors in its first year.
Over the last 20 years The Deep has welcomed over 8.5 million visitors and aim to reach 9 million towards the end of 2022.
To mark the occasion, The Deep will not be hosting a specific birthday celebration but a full calendar of exciting events throughout 2022.
Katy Duke, Chief Executive said “We are extremely proud to have reached our 20th year. Initially as a regeneration project, helping to put Hull on the map as the most successful Millennium Project and as a conservation and education charity. The Deep Crew have been working on an exciting calendar of events for the year, which we are very much looking forward to sharing with all our visitors. The last few years have been incredibly hard but we are full of enthusiasm and optimism for the next 20 years!”
Events planned for 2022 include, school holiday themes of ‘Extinction and the history of life on earth’ to ‘Life on the Humber’ and ‘Sharks’, hosting local authors for readings and book signings, a series of informal and relaxed talk evenings, gin tasting with local gin maker Emma from Five Fathoms Spirits and a photographic competition.
